Waking to clear blue skies and a much improved Barb, after her afternoon with the Panadol, we headed off to have another crack at getting into Caracalla’s Baths. Not an umbrella seller in sight when we arrived and only a handful of tourists, we virtually had the place to ourselves.
Again we were amazed, again we were humbled and again we had a very memorable experience. The facts kept tumbling out, 9000 slaves working every day for 5 years, Olympic sized swimming pool, self draining floors, cold, tepid and hot water baths, saunas, solariums, etc, etc.
After the baths we had had two very important tasks to perform. The first was to deposit a specially prepared 50 cent piece in the Trevi Fountain on behalf of a very important person and the second task was to get Barb a warm coat before she got pneumonia. Both tasks completed successfully we finished our sightseeing for the day on the top of the Vittoriano with panoramic views over Rome . (Note that Barb is now wrapped up in a big black coat with a wooly hood)
