This morning we went down the street to the Colosseum. Walking up to this amazing structure you can’t help but feel humble (But then that would happen to us a lot more times in Rome over the next few days). The advantage of travelling in winter meant that there were probably more amateur tour guides and umbrella sellers at the entry than there were tourists.
Spending a couple of hours exploring this iconic building was an unforgettable experience for me, but for Darcy the highlight was equaled by discovering that Kerry Obrien of 7.30 Report fame was there at the same time. To his credit he resisted the urge to go up to Kerry and ask for an autograph or shared photo, instead he just sneaked a candid photo or two of the great man.
In the afternoon Barb took a well earned rest with a packet of Panadol and tried to flatten the bug that has been annoying her for the last few days, while Saz, Darc and I headed out to see Caracalla’s baths only to arrive there 15 minutes after closing time. But the trip wasn’t wasted as we’d worked out how to use the Metro.
