Tuesday 30th November: Rome

Our first full day in Rome was spent finding our feet and fighting off the effects of jetlag. Having found a small grocery at the end of out street, we were able to stock up our apartment with the essentials, which made us feel a lot more at home.

Unfortunately the internet connection in our new home was not the best so were unable to keep up with what was going on around us, including the reason for huge demonstration that took over a large part of the city. Having just set out for our first walk we came across a large group of people standing on a public stair singing as a choir, then, a little further on, large groups of police blocking off sections of the city with their vans. Everything was very good natured though and there was never any apparent threat of danger. We ended up having the first of many very long walks around the city.
