Tuesday 28th December: Carnac & The Bidule

The next morning, on our way to Carnac, proved to be a photographers delight, with the fogginess leading itself to the photos below...the hunting area of Breca, with the kids sending stones scooting along the ice, watching ducks kerthumping as they landed and the softness of the mist winding through the reeds. A beautiful start to the morning.
I have a fascination with thatched roofs and was able to actually see the thatch from the marshes stacked up then further along the road, being used on the houses. Great process to watch  although the roofers must have wondered why two cars of people were stopped, watching them as they went about their work.

Okay...the question is why did 'whoever' place buckets of stones larger than a man, in beautiful lines across acres of land. That is the question confronting us on our visit to Carnac, the Bretagne Stonehenge! Now, some of the sites in Carnac have been analyzed and ideas have been put forward but basically I really do not think anyone knows. Stunning to see, questions remain.......

Another question remains...... why is the Bidule so popular? This is a bar that first opened its doors around 1946 and serves only the House red and the house white. No other drinks are available and if you want chips or nuts you bring your own. The bar itself is quite small so most of the clientel end up out the back in the courtyard, where you can get your glass topped up by one of the waiters walking around with a milk crate type holder carrying bottles of wine. The Bidule is open just about every night but only from 6.00 to 9.00pm. That's all it has to offer but the night I was there it was jammed pack full, as it is, apparently every night, despite the sub-zero temperatures out in the courtyard. Why?????????
