Our last day in Pornichet and Giles is going to fulfill a promise he made to me at the beginning of the week.
Giles, Marie-Christine and I headed off to the market where an amazing array of cheeses, fish, shell fish, meat, fruit and vegetables were on offer. But only one stall sold la viande de cheval . With the shopping complete we headed back home to drop off MC before Giles and I headed off to the beach for a brisk walk to build up the appetite. Not unexpectedly there were German army blockhouses left ovet from World War 2, but there was also another most notable item of historical significance...... a statue of Monsieur Hulot at the beach were Jacques Tati's movie Monsieur Hulot's Holiday was filmed. Couldn't resist the photo opportunity.
As promised we had la viande de cheval (horse meat) for lunch. Lean but not as tender as beef and not as strong in taste. Thanks Giles and Marie-Christine for giving me the opportuniy to try it.
As if he had not done enough driving over the last few days Giles insisted on driving us to Nantes in lieu of the train. You are a legend Giles.
